What do I speak up about? How do I do it? I speak up on topics I feel strongly effect our lives. I went on a rant a few weeks ago during the hot weather about how our 'School District' is actually a 'School Dictatorship' because I feel like Santa Maria High School is treated like a minor priority, even though the campus is in shambles, only a few of the buildings have circulation, two of the Portables are unfit to be used(One, 628, is not up to California Earthquake Regulations, but they use it anyways instead of fixing the fucking thing, and one Portable in the 400 block has Cockroaches, that my Spanish Teacher dealt with all last year no matter how much she complained), Our Furniture is drastically outdated--and two of the desks collapsed in on themselves my Freshman year, with people in them--The rooms are too cramped, as my history teacher had more students than what the Room was approved for and at least 18 students had to sit on the floor because of a lack of desks, The District Just gave us these tablets because they wouldn't update the Textbooks every few years(Some of the Atlases have East and West Germany, USSR for Russia, And a little old country called Yugoslavia), our famous Ethel Pope Auditorium is overdue for a renovation, but nothing is done for the wonderful building, Again with the portables: When the original buildings were demolished in the 70s, the portables were supposed to last Five years; Forty-Five years have passed and jack shit has happened with these no matter how many problems there are. What solution do I feel is necessary? Become a Union High School again, or Take over One room on the Admin building and refuse to leave until something is done, no matter how long it takes. Just because our school is roughly 89 to 90 percent Hispanic, that doesn't fucking mean the district can treat us like the Black Sheep of the District.
DOWN WITH THE DISTRICT .
